"OPERATION: PURRPOSE" is Smitten Kitten Rescue’s heartfelt initiative designed to support veterans as they navigate the challenges of transitioning back to civilian life. This donation-based program offers military discounts to help offset the cost of adopting a kitten, recognizing the emotional burdens many veterans carry, such as post-traumatic stress and other invisible injuries. A kitten’s unconditional love and companionship can provide comfort, reduce stress, and foster a sense of purpose, making the adjustment to civilian life more manageable. Through this program, we aim to connect veterans with the healing power of a furry friend, creating bonds that bring joy and hope to both human and feline lives.
1. Military Service Verification
• Must provide proof of active or prior military service. Accepted documentation includes:
• DD-214
• VA Health Benefits Card
• Military Identification Card
• State-issued ID with Veteran Status
2. Adoption Application
• Complete the Smitten Kitten Rescue adoption application in full, including providing references and answering all required questions.
3. Commitment to Pet Care
• Demonstrate the ability to provide a safe, loving, and stable home for the kitten, including necessary veterinary care, nutrition, and enrichment.
Through OPERATION: PURRPOSE, our goal is to provide 100% coverage of the adoption fee for qualifying veterans, ensuring that financial barriers do not stand in the way of finding a loving companion. However, as this is a donation-based program, the level of coverage depends on the current funds available in our donation pot. We are committed to covering as much of the adoption fee as possible and will always communicate the exact amount we can offer at the time of adoption. Your support and understanding help us continue honoring our veterans while rescuing kittens in need.
Emotional support animals (ESAs) provide vital benefits to veterans by helping to alleviate symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and depression. These animals offer unwavering companionship and a sense of purpose, reducing feelings of isolation that many veterans experience after returning to civilian life. The bond between a veteran and their ESA can create a calming influence, improving emotional regulation and reducing stress. Moreover, the presence of an ESA often encourages veterans to establish routines and engage in social interactions, further supporting mental and emotional recovery. For many veterans, emotional support animals serve as a bridge to resilience, offering comfort and unconditional love in their journey toward healing.
